Marlee's Marathon

14 Oct 2023

In 2019, Marlee and Amber ran the 10km race at the Melbourne Marathon Festival. In 2025, Marlee is finishing what they started by running the full marathon at the 2023 Melbourne Marathon Festival.

Marlee and Amber both loved running, and they did it together all the way back in primary school. As teenagers they decided to give longer distances a crack, completing the 10km at the Melbourne Marathon Festival in 2019. And in classic 'Marlee and Amber' style, they ran in their school dresses for the 'Do it in a Dress' campaign for the women's education charity, One Girl.

'Amber means the world to me and being able to honour her throughout this journey has been both a beautiful experience and at times, extremely challenging. Amber and I did so many things together, from choir and busking, to camping and rock climbing, but especially running. We both shared a love for running.
In 2019, we did the 10k race at the Melbourne Marathon Festival in 2019 together. Last year I did the Half Marathon in her memory.
Amber’s absence is painfully obvious, but I hope that wherever she is, she can feel how much I love her and miss her.
This year I am running the full marathon for the first time with Amber.
Marlee'

In her 2023 campaign, Marlee raised a huge $7,265 for AWL, successfully completing her first ever, full 42.2 km. We are in awe of her determination, courage and achievements - her love for Amber and empathy for those similarly suffering are unparalleled. Thank you Marlee, we are so proud of you.
